Gloucester Rowing Club are one of the dozen clubs around the country that are participating in the Centurion Challenge. The Challenge is part of the outreach programme of London Youth Rowing, and is spearheaded by Andrew Triggs-Hodge, a triple Olympic gold medallist in the GB coxless four.
Their programme works with youngsters in some of London's disadvantaged communities, encouraging active participation in rowing. London Youth Rowing are working with selected clubs to encourage their own local initiatives.
London Youth Rowing
The Centurion Challenge requires one person from a rowing club to complete 100km in a day and will take place nationally on Sunday, 12th September 2021. For Gloucester Rowing Club, that person will be Mark Venn, who dashes off Half Marathons on his erg like they were mere sprint events.
Gloucester Rowing Club is passionate about extending participation to all sectors of the community. It is looking to raise funds to support its own local programme for disadvantaged young people, and reflects the motivation of London Youth Rowing. Both coaching and equipment are needed.
